Easy holiday 2 ingredient dip

It’s the holiday season and we’re all very busy.  We’re planning, shopping, wrapping, baking, cooking, and on and on.  We are also partying. It’s the season to gather and celebrate friendship and love.  It’s the most wonderful time of the year.  That being said, we all need short cuts and tricks to make all the celebrating a little bit easier.  Here is one such trick…an easy holiday 2 ingredient dip.

Now before I tell you the two ingredients I want you to know that I did not invent this dip.  I remember my mother making it when I was little but I’m pretty sure she didn’t invent it either.  I would call this a mid-century modern classic.  If you’ve had it before you know what I’m talking about.  If not, you’re in for a treat.  On to the two ingredients.



Cream cheese

Hot pepper Jelly


That’s it.  Spread a layer of cream cheese on to a dish and then add a layer of hot pepper jelly.  Most of us usually have cream cheese in the fridge.  You can find hot pepper jelly at the grocery store with all the other jellies.  The one pictured here is from Trader Joe’s and it’s delicious.  Serve with some sturdy wheat thins that won’t break.  No one likes when their cracker breaks.

Here’s where the holiday part comes in.  This dip is great to bring to parties. Make it a hostess gift by serving it in a dish that your hosts can keep.  I found this serving dish at Target and I grabbed a bunch because they were only $5.99.   When I’m out at estate and tag sales I am always on the lookout for pretty vintage dishes to give to hosts.  Make sure to buy some extra cheese spreaders to give as well.



The final touch is to write a message to your host on the bottom of the dish.  I use a gold marker.  A sharpie works as well.  Now they will know the dish is theirs to keep.

  1. Yum! I make s version of this with cream cheese & chutney (mixed in the Cuisinart) serve w/ wheat thins. I’m going to try the Hot Pepper Jelly!
